If you have plenty of Scrolls of Wisdom, identifying a rare item before selling it to a vendor is generally considered worthwhile as they have a large number of modifiers which provides Alteration Shards when sold, increases currency-fragment outcome. Magic items are not usually worth identifying due to their low number of modifiers.

Scrolls of Wisdom can be dropped from slain monsters, chests, destructible containers, and Scribe's Racks. Scrolls of Wisdom may also be obtained by stacking five Scroll Fragments. While many Strongboxes are of normal rarity and do not need to be identified, occasionally strongboxes will come with additional "unidentified modifier" text when hovered over buy POE2 Currency. While it is not necessary to identify the chest before opening it, using a Scroll of Wisdom and applying it to the chest will grant prefixes to the strongbox which may improve loot.
